Coast to Coast

We are new, hope i am doing this correctly,

e just bought into Coast to Coast 2 weeks ago.  Do not have our paperwork yet.  Can anyone tell me their experience with them.. I am soooo wishing we would not have done this.  We are so excited to get traveling that we have lost our sences I do believe.

I really think I am going to call tomorrow and see if I can't get out of this.  Big fat chance, right?????

Just to add my two cents

Just to add my two cents here...and this is just my thoughts
1. If you purchased your Coast to Coast membership directly you stand a good chance of paying to much ...you can get way better deal on this club and others on the internet via E-bay or other sites.
2. I believe that unless you purchase the top tier membership you are limited to the time you can spend in their parks per year.
3. If you travel a lot you would be better served having memberships in discount clubs like "Passport America". There are others also, these clubs offer deep discounts on various parks all over the country. Mind you that some of these parks may be a bit further off the interstate or an older say KOA that was on the main drag years ago but no more.
4. Coast to Coast parks are very nice. my biggest thing here is that I want to spend time seeing the country not Coast to Coast parks.
5. This is not exactly the same but let me recommend an rv club to you. It is called "Escapees" they offer 15% discount at participating parks (sometimes you have to ask). They have a network of their own parks which you only pay around $10 per night. Their parks are all very nice and they treat you like you are family (hope you like hugs). This club sponsors a nursing home which is located on their property and it is for us club members to go when we can'tbe on the road any more...Of all the rv clubs this one has a purpose.
please take a moment and update us on your membership.

Thanks so much for sharing

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. I have heard of Escapees. It sounds like a great group.

I think we just need to settle down and spend some time digesting everything that is going on and do some learning before dishing out the $$$.

lesson learned...you will do

Barry n Sharon's picture

lesson learned...you will do just fine..take your time and ask a lot of questions.......
We have been on the road for over 6 years now...and we took 4 years of planning to get there..and still made a lot of mistakes...like taking jobs in rv parks that actually wound up costing us money.
Kinda like when we first started traveling and found we had missed a turn....panic set in and we fretted over how to turn around at nearly 60' in length......then we learned patients and found there are a lot of roads that lead to the same place.

How did your jobs in RV parks

How did your jobs in RV parks end up costing you money? This sounds like a good story. Please continue I am all ears, rather eyes.

Without giving actual numbers

Barry n Sharon's picture

Without giving actual numbers here is what happened...I guess i should set the scene first..Job was in Tn 40 hours per week each cleaning cabins and other stuff. Job was to run from April 15 to mid Oct. Pay was 7.50 per hour 10 hrs each for rent ( wife remembers it being a bit more than that ).
REMEMBER I'mnot saying this is anybody's fault other than our own.
1. We traveled1400 miles to get to the job.
2. We found that they had hired 4 couples to clean 9 cabins. ( way to many people).
3. We were told then that we would prob not get 40 hours until the high season (June-Aug).
4.We were hired to clean cabins and got on the job in Apr but if my memory serves me correctly we didn't rent maybe 3 or 4 cabins during Apr, may. To "help you get some hours we were given other tasks pressure washing the cabin decks raking the park...ect. Needless to say they also had a maint crew so the 4 cabin cleaning folks and the reg maint people there was still not enough to keep everyone busy for 40 hours.
5.closest REAL shopping was 50 miles away. there was no cell phone service at all.....for any cell service.
6. As we were in a high visitor area everything was at inflated prices ...we paid way to much for fuel and propane. and had to pay the park rate for laundry....no discounts on anything other than the inflated prices at the park store...which was way under stocked except for candy and beer
7. There were only approx 3 or 4 weeks during our stay that we actually got 40 hours each.....there were many days that we would go to work to find that there was absolutely nothing they wanted us to do ( there was a lot that could have been done but they choose to be cheep and not do a lot of things that were to them necessary...
8. We after July 4 holiday )We had to work split shifts during this period and still did not get the advertised 40) that we would cut our losses and leave....we gave two weeks notice and left .....(we then drove 1000 miles to the next job). we were not the first to leave and each time someone left rather than give those hours to the ones left they would tire more people.......
So if you take all this in.... it cost us to work there.
There is another story about a certain park in LA. we were hired to help rebuild the park after Katrina.....we got there from Az. worked one week and left...here is the deal in very short.....this guy was "rebuilding the park which was destroyed by the hcane" well most of the trailers had holes in the floor from leaking roofs..this was not a trailer park it was a dump> they wanted us to re- condition these hcan damaged trailers so he could lease them to FEMA...but found that FEMA would not accept them....so we started to re do the vacant lots to make them FEMA correct. The real story here is he got insurance money to rebuild the park..the crap trailers were abandoned so he quick claimed them and he was getting like 5 grand for each FEMA lot he could get
Any the short side is that this company was scamming his insurance company, FEMA, and the people that were working for them...we stayed one week and left this job on not the friendliest terms...this job also cost us cause they only paid every two weeks and guess what we are still looking fot the one week check... cost us to work there...

I think you better give up

I think you better give up working in the rv parks and find a job at McDonalds. Ha Sorry about your luck, sounds like you are more then willing to work but can't get in the right spot. There are so many older people out there willing to pay someone to help with things, to bad they don't have a way of posting such offers in places like that. Might be an idea for a community to help their senior citizens at home as well as retire people still able willling and wanting to help to make a few $$.
Thanks for the stories. Thats helpful to know.

Are you and I the only ones posting on this site???

We have worked in several

Barry n Sharon's picture

We have worked in several parks that were OK never great...every one so far has been (as far as we are concerned) under paid for what they want. As posted before we are now site sitting (security at night) on construction site. pay os ok good part is no expenses....bad part is isolation... work is for 6 to 9 months and it affords us travel for the rest of the year.
We watch jobs posted on a site called WORKAMPER look at www.workamper.com site used to be much better has been taken over by person wanting more to make money rather than providing a platform of finding jobs and exchanging good and bads about emplyers....
looks like we are the only posters..to bad this could be a great site...I don't know why more people dont post...the owner seems to have 30 blogs but eve he has nothing lately
I would love to post more...i used to write for a site called SUITE101 and kinda got the bug....but you seem to be the only one reading...might as well e-mail you...LOL

We have been Coast to Coast

We have been Coast to Coast members for 3 years. Our home park is in Palm Sprngs and we go there in the winter. When traveling we attempt to stay in CC Parks with fair success. Give it a chance. The big thing you need to do is pick a Home Park you will enjoy spending time at annually

We have been Coast to Coast

We have been Coast to Coast members since 1992. A few years before we became full timers. Most of our experiences were good to excellent. The only problems we had from time to time was arriving to a park only to find out they had closed. And that was mostly to my fault for not keeping up with the new book of listings of parks in the system that had been dropped or closed. My hubby has worked in three of the parks in CA. Palm Springs and Idlywild and Santa Barbara. We use many public parks also and most of the time are very pleased. Which brings to mind, the good thing about being on wheels, LOL if you don't like the neighborhood batton down the hatches and move on!
