Preparing to buy a Recreational Vehicle (RV)

There's no substitute for several months worth of talking to folks, going to shows, collecting brochures and reports, net browsing, taking good notes and becoming pretty centered on just what you want before you get serious about buying. Spend several months and long nights browsing, printing listings, calling sellers, etc. When the right RV for you comes across your path, it should be pretty obvious that that's the one you want and about how much you're willing to pay for it. It should not be an emotional process, though.

Most important, be sure to join and use the RV Consumers Group at http://www.rv.org. Their reports, letters, guides and personal counseling are extremely helpful in making an intelligent and informed decision.

Once you have found the vehicle that you believe you want to own, use this checklist to Inspect, and functionally test all of the systems, subsystems and components. If possible, include an experienced RV technician and an automobile mechanic in the inspection process.

Stan Metcalf compiled the final check list. The basic document was received from Bob Rodert who gave his permission for its use. Inputs were received and incorporated from Craig N. Eggerman, John Steverding and Pat Curry with edits and additions of my own.
